"...that I may know him..." Philippians 3:10

Welcome to the "KNOW NOW" generation of the 21st century!

Thanks to our modern-day social media tools (or toys) we can instantly be in the "KNOW" about
any and all kinds of information. We send and receive text messages all day long. We update our
Facebook statuses by the hour. We even "tweet" (How "twer-rific"!, as Elmer Fudd might say).
The speed at which we can attain KNOW-ledge is incredible. We are acquiring information in
the "fast lane" of the "superhighway" (and hope we don't get run over). However, I'm afraid
we're traveling fast but not sure where we're going. (I think of the husband who said, "Honey,
yes we're lost, but we're making good time!")

The Apostle Paul wanted to be "in the KNOW." In writing to the Philippian Christians from
prison, Paul says this: "That I may "KNOW" him (Jesus Christ)..." Too bad Paul couldn't have
subscribed to the devotional thought-for-the-day. Too bad he couldn't receive a text message
on the Five Secrets for a Successful Christian Life. No, Paul knew spiritual growth could
not be "instantaneous." Paul knew his faith would be strengthened only by trials, hardships
and "suffering loss." By keeping his "Face-in-the-Book", he could strive to attain that for which
Christ took hold of him.

More than desiring the average (and often routine) Christian walk, Paul wanted to KNOW
CHRIST and the POWER of the HIS RESURRECTION.

"That I may know him..." is the theme for the 2011-12 school year. It is found in Philippians
3:10. Philippians only has four short chapters. I encourage you to read the book when you
can find an extra 30 minutes, as this will help you "KNOW Him" better or in a different way.
Maybe you will learn to "KNOW Him" as your Savior or Lord; maybe as your Father or
Friend; or perhaps as your Rock and Refuge. He might become your Hope or Husband. All true
saving KNOW-ledge is found "in Him" and "of Him" and "through Him." Turn your "face" to
his "book" and notice his "profile" - His eternal friendship and salvation is available to all who
confess Him as Lord and believe that God raised Him from the dead. What a friend we have in
Jesus! Do you KNOW Him? This school year, may you grow in the KNOWledge and love of the
One who created you and loves you with an everlasting love!
