Preschool starts at age three as long as the student is potty-trained. If the class is not full, your child can even start on his or her third birthday! For kindergarten, most children need to be five years old. But, unlike other schools, there isn't a defined cut-off birthdate for kindergarten at HCS. All kindergarten students take a kindergarten screening test. This test determines whether a child is ready for kindergarten. Some children are ready earlier, and some take more time to grow! Working with each individual child helps determine readiness better than a hard date on a calendar.

Enrollment at Heritage Christian School is a three-step process. The first step is to schedule a no-pressure tour to visit the school. If you decide to move forward, the second step is to complete enrollment paperwork. The third and final step is a new student test to check what every child has learned in the areas of reading and math. This is not a cut-score exam! Our students come from ten different school districts across our region, and those districts may have a lower standard of academics than Heritage. We want to make sure every child is placed in the class where he or she will be most successful, and so we check where the student is compared to our similar grade level. If students are behind, we have tutors to help! If they are ahead, we want to make sure they are challenged to their full potential. We like to do this planning in advance, and the testing enables us to gather that information.

Yes, we often have waiting lists in specific grades. Each year, this changes based on the students enrolled. The best way to avoid a waiting list is to enroll and re-enroll early! Enrollment often starts in January for the next school year that starts in August. But, if you are placed on a waiting list, there is still hope of attending HCS. If the waiting list grows long enough, Heritage may hire an additional teacher and open up another section of the grade. Or, if a child moves, a seat can open up mid-year. Sooner is always better than later, so schedule a tour or call the office for information as soon as you can to help your child get a seat in our great school.

Yes, as long as there is room in the class, students can transfer in mid-year. The enrollment process is the same at any point in the year. Students on a waiting list will have first priority when a seat opens in a class.

A birth certificate is required, and other recommended items include a social security card (if available), immunization information (or waiver), scholarship documents (many students attend using one or more scholarships), transfer records for students moving from another school, and Heritage-specific enrollment paperwork. Heritage-specific information includes paperwork such as emergency medical forms, language forms and more.
